1987 300TD wagon starting issues solved, tighten starter lug connections

Driving back from Mobile last Friday I had a stop in a rest area that was about an hour longer than originally planned. I went in for my "rest break" and came out to my wagon which would not start. Just a little click when I turned the key. CRap, crap , crap, it's cold out, 2100 and still an hour to get home. I thought it was my NSS but starting in neutral was a no go, fiddled in other gears and such but still no luck. I am tired, cold and want to get home so I call AAA for a tow. In the mean time I call 79Mercy and he suggests jumping a starter lug to the solenoid screw. Well that worked great. Waited for AAA to sign off, didn't want to screw the driver out of run, he showed up about 5-10 minutes after I got it started. Anyway, drove home without shutting off the car, shutoff in the driveway as a test and NO start just as before.

Get up Sat morning and start troubleshooting, looking at possible ignition switch, battery seemed solid, possibly NSS just not sure. I put a socket on the starter lugs and the seemed a tiny bit loose, snugged them up and test started it and it fired up good as new. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

Yup, battery connections are critical on a diesel engine.
