Trunk gasket sealant, or no?

I've been getting water into my trunk, so I took my seal entirely off, which was a very easy project. They have square pegs of sorts holding the plastic part in at the bottom and sides of the trunk. Just get a small screwdriver and work those out so you can remove the plastic part.

I cleaned the gunk out of the seal and the water channel. I'll let that dry well before putting it back on.

The question I have is, am I supposed to use a gasket sealant of any type? The seal as it was came right out. I've seen some videos on youTube of other cars where they have to use a chemical gasket remover to get the gasket out. Mine came out real easily, so I don't think they used a sealant at all from the factory.
Just wondering if I'm supposed to put any on or not. The gasket itself holds in nice and firm all on its own.
