Friend has a OM617, what should he put it in?

We picked up a great running 617 a while back at the parts yard. It's from an 85 300SD. He doesn't want to put it into a vehicle it was meant for, meaning a W123, W126 etc. Here were a few of the ideas thrown around.

I say put it in a w115. If your motor is a California edition with the higher turbo on the manifold it should squeeze in. There's the issue of the oil filter but that's doable. I say it's worth it, If you can find one with a 4sp that would be a sweet car

I always thought it would be cool to put into an 80's ford ranger, or something similar. An aerostar would be funky lol, I grew up with one of those.

Put it in an old Supra Mk3 or 240sx.

Is an Aerostar rear wheel drive?
I like Volvo 240s. I like Nissan 240s, too. I even like Mercedes 240s.

I like old trucks.

It'd be cool in an S-10

The S-10 thing has been done! Believe me - I know. Besides, the engine bay is pretty tight, length-wise, which also makes the Ranger a tight fit (see above).

I voted for the Cressida though the Volvo would be great, too. My only concern with the Volvo is that they're TOO MUCH like a Mercedes and they did come with a Diesel so that would take away from the "special factor" - some folks might think it was just a stock Volvo Diesel. The Merc or the Aerostar would be a bit heavy for the 617 (they don't make all that much HP).

So it's the Toyota for me. I have no clue on the particulars - things like front or rear sump oil pan configuration can have a huge impact.

I'd like to see one in a 90's pontiac Montana minivan.

Put it in a gas Mercedes convertible if one with a bad engine but otherwise good can be located cheap enough.

Had to vote "other"

I reckon an OM617 would be good in a smart car.

(If only to really show how daft they were in the first place)

If you can get your hands on a Jeep DJ, that looks like a fun little truck to swap a 617 into.

Put it in an rx8, they can be had extremely cheap with worn out engines. I don't think it'd clear the hood at all but length wouldn't be a problem.

Sent from an abacus
