I have that HF ball joint separator now, but didn't last time I disconnected the lower ball joint stud from the control arm. Unlikely you could work it into that tight area, but let us know if it works. I have 2 sizes of Pitman arm pullers, but neither fit. I tried the 2 hammer method, but it has never worked for me (on several vehicles), but you can find youtube videos and web photos of others doing it. I recall one good post on an old Mustang site. Some who have worked at suspension shops said they used that trick daily. I think it works best on a car where you can jack it so the spring is trying to push the stud out as you hammer, and I'm not seeing how you could jack a W123 so that is true. Seems best you could do is jack under the LCA and have the weight of the tire and spindle act down. I used a pickle fork, which has always worked for me on many vehicles. It tears up the boot, but I always change that anyway. On my W123, I had to run out and buy a narrower fork and cut the tips down so it didn't bottom out on the spindle as I hammered it in. Read the post funola started that we refer to.
