Anyone use double sided tape on dash trim?
Need to reattach the ac console wood trim to the metal backing.
Used jb last time and it came apart after a couple years. Also with glue it's harder to get the holes on the backing and the jokes in the wood to perfectly line up with the ac buttons. Any tricks to this? I've also read that brush on contact cement works. Also read good things about gorilla glue.

My thinking is when the interior gets warm at all, that double-sided tape is going to let go and will be a real mess to clean up afterwards.
I've tried wood glues, contact cement and super glue. None of them worked as well as Gorilla Glue. The only drawback I've seen is that it usually oozes a slight bit and you will need to take a razor blade to clean up the edges. But once it is bonded, it stays! There is a version that sets up slower so you can adjust the parts into alignment. Use clothes-pin style clamps to hold everything in place.

X2 on that the typical stuff you buy for Office or indoor uses will not take the heat or maybe even if it gets really cold.

You can get double-sided tape (3M VHB series) that will bond permanently, some are heat-cured, some are very thin, will need clean smooth surfaces. A body-shop supply or industrial supply should have these.
A good contact cement should also work, I would consider a good 2-part epoxy which will hold well and doesn't need a perfectly smooth surface.

RTV works best for me. It holds just fine but unlike the permanent glue such as epoxy, gorilla glue, construction adhesive etc, it can be removed when needed without breaking the wood.

I used the 3m super duty double stick from autozone. I did it straight up in October and with FL heat and now 30 degree cold they have not budged. For a more perm bond you can use the liquid activator and that should be perm. The 3m tape and activator holds 8' long keel guards on boat bottoms, I think it can hold a 4oz piece of wood on a dash.
