Nobody is going to believe that you actually bought one, unless there are pictures...

There was one listed at a dealer near him here not long ago. I will say it is substantially easier to find the blue tech car if you are shopping.

I'm finding very few 05/06 E320 CDIs with the low miles that I'm looking for to buy. The good news is that they should be dropping in price as time passes.

I've been on the prowl for one for the past year. They are starting to get in my price range.

I'm on (2) different alert websites that encompass the retail 05/06 CDIs, very scarce with less than 45K miles on them. I'm afraid that most of the time, the super-creampuffs are traded-in @ MB and other dealerships. Those, never see the light of day and are snatched up by the insiders/employees at the dealerships, as well as get passed-on to wholesaler note lots within 3 days or so, if they've got the higher-miles on them. I'd sure like to get a heads-up from the MB dealers-resale network on them.

I'm afraid that by the time I find the right CDIs, I'll be in the market for the 2014/15 E250 4-cyl. model that is dropping in price as well.

FWIW, I just noticed a 2009 E Class Bluetec listed FS at European Motor Cars in Fort Worth. 40K miles. I think it was listed at about 25 kilobucks.

Trying to find a one owner, with good service history, no accidents, low mileage '05 or '06 CDI is a task. Of course I was picky about the color combo and wanted one that had some options. I had been looking for quite some time and then came across a 2005 in a color combo that was acceptable. It had cooled/heated dynamic seats, CD changer, NAV, sunblind, pass through rear seats with ski bag, Bi-xenon active headlights with washers and the wood/leather steering wheel with only 79K on the clock. It was a one owner, no accidents and had an excellent service history. It was at the BMW dealer in Naples, FL. and of course they were not giving it away. I wound up at $12.8K 'out-the-door' which to me was a little high, but I wanted the car. As it turns out, it was purchased here in NC at the dealer about 15 miles from me. The car should be here in NC by the end of the week.

I hope you have good luck with your new purchase.

Tom

For those options and miles, it was a fair price. Maybe even a really good price.
Every time you cool your seats in the summer, drive at night with the active bi-xenon lights, fold down the rear seat to take a load, drive by the fuel station for yet another week, you will feel good about your purchase.

As soon as you get it, post photos.

That sounds like a great price, at least in So Cal.

In Seattle that car would probably have had an asking price well north of $22k, and fetched at least $20k. No joke, of course that area of the country is out of control with prices on everything and the demand for diesels up there is high, but still....

Coming out of South Florida, I would have wanted to see/inspect the car in-person, or have it checked out at least by a DD forum member here. I hope the car didn't endure any problems from water intrusion/rust. Many used cars from FLA. are not what they're touted as, (according to at least one member here that has been burnt a few times) - but I wish you luck on your purchase. The car sounds irresistible - especially if it's been garaged, etc.

I did have someone test drive/look the car over really good - and they know Mercedes inside and out. No signs of damage, no paint work and it drove really well with no apparent problems or strange sounds (other than the sweet sound of a diesel). I just didn't do a PPI which could come back and bite me but I hope not. The car has only been in Naples for about 8 months. The rest of the time it was here in NC so I feel fairly certain that it is a rust free car. The car is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I will try and post some pics - how hard can that be??

Thanks for all the positive comments.

Tom

I just spend $2K on my 05 CDI; new rear SAM, stereo amplifier and to eliminate the SOS warning message. I also had a micro draw that used to drain the battery if you didn't drive it for more than four days. Ouch, that hurt.

Unless you're getting complete repair and maintenance records, you may very well need perhaps $2K to $5K in parts and repair and deferred maintenance. If it's not been maintained.

My CDI w/59K miles had everything possible done to it before I bought it, including new Michelin Primacy tires and brakes/rotors all around, so I could drive it with peace of mind for many years without dumping thousands into it. However, I chose to dump a total of about $2K into it so far in probably premature a in maintenance work, where most would just neglect it.

I had the complete MB VMI report AND the Carfax side by side for 2 days to pore over them and test drive the car and look it over. After 2 days, I pulled out my check book and wrote a check for it. They had a back up buyer anxious to jump on it. I went to look at it 3 days after it hit AutoTrader. A real cream puff for 59K miles, IMO. 3 years ago this coming June.

I had the full printed VMI which showed the previous owner spend a crapload of money at the dealer and fixed most everything. Didn't help. My old 82 wagon had copious records and was owned by a Dr who spend tens of thousands... but it had more problems than my 84 wagon which had no records and less issues.

I had the same reports - the VMI and Carfax. It appears the car was over serviced as it had 3 oil & filter changes in the last 8,000 miles or a period of 1 year. It also is reported to have the transmission serviced, fuel filter replaced, brake pads replaced, brake flush and a 4 wheel alignment performed in the same time period. I always like to have a 'baseline' for maintenance, so if I cannot obtain proof that everything is current, I will do it myself. Plan A is to contact the PO for the records if they have not been tossed. Plan B is to contact the indy for copies - if they are willing. I do not know a lot about them except they have been in business for many years.

My 'internet sales consultant' at the dealership told me that an hour after my friend left test driving & checking the car over, a couple came to look at the car. And, later that same afternoon, he received a call from someone in South Carolina that wanted to send someone to check out the car. Who knows if all that is true or not as the car is now mine! I do not know how long the car was listed on AutoTrader, but the dealership's PDI was completed on 1-7-16.

Sorry if this got posted twice.

Tom
