Door lock linkage question

One day last winter when my locks were frozen, I tried opening the passenger side of my 84 300D and used too much pressure trying to turn the key. Something gave way and now the tumbler turns but is not connected to the linkage. I took the panel off last week and could see that there is a plastic part that connects the cylinder to the linkage, and that part cracked. I am wondering if that part can be purchased by itself or is it part of the lock cylinder assembly.

Are you talking about the rod clip??

If so, it is available at most local parts stores that carry the Dorman "Help!" products.
Such as this:

I do not think it is a rod clip but I am going to take the panel off again and have another look. If I can get a decent picture, I will take one.

Would you be able to identify said piece from the attachment?

I think OP may be talking about this white plastic piece on the end of the lock cylinder rod. I don't see it in the exploded diagram in the previous post. It might be part of #5 there.

Went back for another look at the parts car... Here's a picture looking into the door at the latch mechanism through the hole from where the handle was removed. You can see the white plastic piece intact here.

Is it the stupid white plastic thing on the door lock assembly itself? Mine were broken on both sides when I bought my car. I fixed it by removing the lock assembly from the door (kind of a pain) and using stainless bailing wire to wire the broken plastic piece back together. It's been working for a few months now. I couldn't find the part for sale anywhere.

I do not see it in this diagram. Maybe that is a plus, that it is a separate part from the lock assembly and can be ordered from the dealer.

I have not had time to go back and take off the panel but the way this part functions, I am guessing this is it.

Are you aware of anyone on this forum presently providing such a service? And I would need a good piece to start with. I guess I could take it from the other door. Also, the printed copy would have to be of the right material.

I could possibly carve one with a Dremel, but it would be tedious.

I have a friend who has a 3D printer that I've used extensively, one of the labs I work in also has a 3D printer. I'm not sure of the plastic used for 3D printing would be strong enough to actually make a new one of these. Or at least the plastics I have access to. The design would likely have to be changed a little bit to add strength, if I come by a w123 in a junkyard I've been thinking about pulling the lock assembly out of the door to play around with some printing.

Anyone know if the right and left sides are the same or mirror images of each other? It looks like it could be the same part, but you never know...

I am guessing that it would be a mirror image.

I had the part from my passenger front door lock scanned and 3D printed. Contact Adam or Bryce at FORGE 3D Printing. They can make some for you. See attached pic. The original is grey, the final product is the goldish colored piece. The white part was a prototype printed with a plastic resin material. The final product in goldish color is a metal alloy of some sort. I have yet to install it, been sitting my work bench since August of 2013

So I am guessing that your driver's side door will lock and the passenger side will not because this part has not been installed. My biggest concern is that if I lock the car and the drivers side breaks when I try to open it, I will not be able to get my car unlocked. I am surprised that it is the passenger side that broke, as it presumably has had much less wear than the driver's side.

Do you recall how much that part cost you?
