Do the OM616 and OM617 use different clutches and pressure plates?

Just wondering. I thought that they used the same ones.

I'm using an OM616 clutch assembly (including flywheel) and it works great. Not sure if OEM PN's are the same but I'd bet "Yes".

should be the same PP and disc... the flywheel would of course be different due to the heavier weight on the 617, but otherwise identical there too...

I somewhat remember the 300d clutch disc as being somewhat thicker.
Also one question I would wonder is which slave cylinder and release bearing would be best. They have different dimensions IIRC. I can check though. As far as things working I am sure the 240d clutch set will work. Weather it will give the optimal performance and or longevity is unsure.
My question is would you use the 240d slave with the 240d clutch kit. or use the 5-speed slave which has a longer pushrod. I may have a 5 speed release bearing part number, I will have to see.

I don't knw why a 5 speed slave would be different unless it bolts through he five speed flange and its thicker. to bearing should be the same

The slave for the g.wagon Om617 Gl275 5 speed has a 201 part number which has superseded the old part. The 4 speed slave for the 240GD and 300GD is the same. I even had the four speed slave in my GL275 setup and it worked fine. The clutch did engage differently though.
The slave for the 300d 5 speed is also the 201 part number which has a longer rod. I held them together for comparison.
Edit I just looked at another site and the slave and release bearing are different from the 4 speed. Now comparing OM 616 vs OM 617 both 5speed GL275 and they are the same. IRRC that is how I found it in the EPC. If you are putting a new release in you mays well have it be completely correct. I can give you part numbers. Ill have to dig. the Clutch disc and pressure plate should be the same.

Well I concede they all are the same. All the different part numbers supersede one another and are identical. It is odd that the part number for the slave is a 201 prefix for the 5 speed, but all the rest of the parts are identical to the 716.xx 4 speed. I really wonder why they decided to put a longer pushrod there. Im using it and it is a nice setup. The clutch grabs at a lower pedal position IIRC PN 201 290 0311.

http://www.findpart.org/part/bos-0986486503/ I just cross referenced the PN and it lists 1979-1985 300d as a recipient. Also many others dating back to early r107 cars.
