diagnosing oil leak om602

Hello everyone. I have a pretty bad oil on my 1986 190d 2.5
its leaking oil from the drivers side at the front of the engine. I want to sell the car so purchase something bigger, and I would hate to have to sell it with this oil leak not being resolved. I have already replaced crank seal, and the vacuum pump gasket. It doesn't leak as bad as it used to. Before it would spray all over the front of the engine from the fan shroud. Now it just sprays to the left of the engine bay and down on the oil pan. I know its engine oil, because it black. I can't figure out what else it could be. oil level sensor has been suggested and Ill look at it but I think its too low. Also someone mentioned the timing chain cover. I want to know how I can tell if its leaking or not since I'm guessing it requires taking apart the whole front of the engine.
Let me know if you have a theory or have had a similar issue
thanks
Tim

welcome to the forum!

it sounds like the head gasket. I have heard you can remove the valve cover, and gently tighten the front 6mm bolts back to spec and stop the oil leakage, but I've never done it.

Injection pump to engine block O-ring is a possibility. I had to do that job on my 601. At its worst, it got very bad very quickly, and before I parked it for the repair I lost 2 quarts in just a few miles.

Anywho, the first step is to CLEAN the whole area REALLY well. Then do a quick run and check.

Get a couple of cans of carb cleaner, and get as much oil off the engine as you can. Then add a dose of this:

Quest/8 oz. oil and fuel UV dye with measure and pour 384 - Read Reviews on Quest #384

Use a UV light to find the leak. Done.
