81-84 SD exhaust

Do 81-84 SDs use the same exhaust system with the pair of kidneys under the rear seat? I recall one of my previous SDs had an inline resonator ahead of the rear axle.

Does the new muffler sound similar to OE? What did you use?

I used an OEM Ansa, there is more noise, nothing serious and I don't mind.

Less weight too.

I bet that losing a few pounds really makes a 617 fit for the race track.

My 10/84 build SD (85MY) has the dual kidney resonator section also.

I have a 9/84 build 85 SD, and as I was reading this, I had to go outside to check, LOL. Yes, mine has the dual kidneys as well. I never really paid much attention to it before, so I dont know the whole story on these. What were the benefits of such an odd shaped exhaust system?

While I was under the car, I noticed the exhaust system rubber hangers aren't looking their best. Who knows how old they are. Guess I should add that to the list of "car things that need attention/replacing/money"

Just resonators.

Look for higher quality hangers, the $9 ones have metal inside and are much more durable. Changing hangers once a year is LAME.

Thanks, all. The muffler doesn't sound happy and I was thinking there might be a later OE exhaust system at the pick-n-pull. I can turn a wrench but I can't weld :/
