Instrument Cluster Interchange

I'm looking for information on what years the left hand side of the cluster (Temp, Oil, Fuel) section will work in my '85 300D. My oil pressure gauge has failed and was leaking, I have it capped for now. I had a wiring Issue with the car recently and it has burnt up some traces on the printed circuit. I have ran some overlays, but now would like to just change it completely out. Any info will be much appreciated.

I think any 1977-1985 W123 diesel would fit. A W123 gasser gauge should also fit, but will additionally have an "economy" gauge on the bottom that won't hook up to anything stock in your car but can be modified to work as a boost gauge.

BTW, where in MA are you? I'm in Chelmsford, where Rt. 3 and 495 intersect north of Boston (about 15 minutes south of Nashua, NH).

The Temp/Oil/Fuel gauge from 77 - 79, the Temp is in "F".
Also the low level/reserve light is red.
(this is just my casual observation in PNP)

80 - 85 the Temp is in "C", and the Reserve light is orange.

Iam using one the early gauges in my 85 300D and 80 240D. Work just fine.

Thanks a lot guys. Been doing the eBay thing and noticed most are the earlier style gauges. Didn't want to try and find out on my own yet.
Molyapina I'm over in Springfield.

And one other nuance. The later 123 clusters included the low fuel light in the bulb check circuit. Early ones do not. Either version is compatible with any 123.

Oh yeah, forgot about that little tid bit.
I don`t remember if the "C" gauge that was in there before had that function
or is it some other function that has the check light thingy?

Well I know my red light works on the 240, it came on tonight. Took about 18 gallons.

Thank you everyone else. I have purchased a gauge setup from BirthdayBenz, hopefully that will be the end of the issues.

Hi,

Since I rarely visit the forum, I missed your note. I have known John since he was 16. Jack's mother Mary was my high school best friend's little sister. John and I started the car business at their Dartmouth St. home in South Hadley in 1984 or so while John still worked for Simplex in Gardner and I was in grad school in Cambridge.

J. E. Robison Service certainly has evolved from back then as has John with his Adventures with Asperger's Syndrome and more recently his national level work in Autism advocacy.

Jack has certainly come a long way himself. His dad and I both knew long ago that fixing cars wasn't in his blood.
