1986 Mercedes 300 SDL Fuel leakage and strange?

Good evening all

I have a weird situation happening with my diesel. I have a slow drain on the battery, and anytime I don't drive it for three or more days I put it on trickle charge.

I notice that when I charge it and the fuel tank is full, there is fuel leakage in the area if the fuel tank under the car. This puzzles me and I welcome any reasonable explanation. How can I correct this situation?

Thanks

Ron

You need to clean up under the car...
then park it somewhere clean and neat and check to see exactly where the fuel is leaking from..
right side, left side , middle, fore , aft ?

I've done that, and thank you for mentioning it. It is on the passenger side behind the rear wheel. It is right in the area of the fuel fill door and about 12" under.

Have you checked inside your trunk area to see if any rubber connections to the fuel tank fill spout may be leaking ? I do not know how your car is made..... on mine the tank is vertical and I just pop the cardboard liner out to see that area... could also be the fuel to engine at the bottom of the tank...

Likely the fill or vent hose is loose or tired. While charging part is coincidence. Hook up an ammeter then pull fuses until you find the culprit circuit.

Thumbs up

Trunk light or radio is the likely culprit for the power drain.

Agreed with Sixto on the amp draw test, super easy.

Hey, come to think of it... I have had an alternator cause a power drain on two separate vehicles.

just a thought, but check your fuel cap and make sure it's not leaking. Could be the drain hose from the fuel fill door area diverting tank expansion or leakage from cap?

One other thought on battery drain that came with my SDL. The driver door switch was bad and caused the courtesy light on bottom of door to stay on. Consequently that light recesses into the door frame and unless you are in pitch black its unnoticeable.
