'95 diesel wagon?

Mercedes Benz E Class E300D | eBay

Looking at this wagon it appears to be the one and only, ... '95 E300 diesel wagon! I didn't think they ever sent one, so maybe gray market? European delivery? I have to know!

However, down in the description, it has an extensive carfax type printout, for a different VIN than the car in the listing, ... carefully and subtly mentioned as "the Donor car history".

So what say you? A branded-title E320 wagon with a (apparently well done) 606na transplant? Kind of a shady listing if so IMO.

I like it even if it is a custom build.

Certainly a build project. .. I considered doing it to a pair of wrecked ones I had... but, no time.

Looks like a good job from the pics, even installed the stainless Special Edition sill plates!

I thought about it too, update an '87 which is already diesel, or diesel a '95 which is already updated, ... I waffled on that decision for a while. I think that unless I had the 606na laying around however, going to this much work I'd have gone directly to the 606turbo and a 5-speed, ...

I wonder how he / they addressed bus issues, this was the thing that stopped me from going '95 diesel and instead finding an '87 to update.

Its a conversion. I remember seeing this car on eBay about a year ago for a lot more money than the current bid. Its very nicely done.

No bus issues here, they took a 124.131 (E300D 1995) and put the drive train into a 320TE. Most of the later electronic gadgets (mostly the convenience control system for the windows) and the passenger air bag, can be transplanted from the later 124s to the early 124s, but you will have to gut the interior to be able to run all the wires.

If I had the time, space, and money, I would find a 90s wagon with a nice interior and transplant it to my 87.

The bigger trick is to mash together a W210 gas wagon and an E300 W210 engine. That is where the data bus issues might happen. Although I wonder if it would really be a problem since the power train is on its own CAN separate from the body CAN. If you got the IFI control, transmission control, key switch and cluster from the diesel sedan donor would that work in a gas wagon transplant?

Likewise W210 606 and 722.6 can be made to work in 124 with aftermarket transmission controller and manual IP.

It's a conversion. It's been floating around Craigslist too. It went for big money on eBay back in the day. I think it was like $12-15k
