Photo from Morocco

Just got back from a trip to Morocco where older diesel Mercedes' seem to occupy about a third of the taxi fleet, and most of them are the W123 240D. They make up the low end of the taxis, where rides cost $1 USD but they only leave when they're full with six people (still not sure how they fit the third in the front). If there is interest, I can post many more photos.

Cool pic! Mercedes and KFC - interesting combination. Oh, I get it! They run the taxis on KFC oil so that's actually a filling station.

Interesting they are all the same color, maybe the taxi co. color? Also a lot of newer MB in the line up.
Most of the pictures I have seen before, it was a whole fleet of W123`s.
I have seen other pictures on the net and they were blue.

I would be interested in seeing the pictures you have. Thanks for posting.

Good call Dan.

I wonder if the "attendant" makes "DING DING" sounds as he pours the juice.

I believe that "Hellelfenbein" is the official taxi color in Germany. Many of these were probablay taxis in the fatherland before finding their way to Morocco.

Is that the ferry warf near gibralter? Looks familiar. Algeceris to Ceuta? As for where the sixth person comes, the Arabs tend to run slender so perhaps four in back or perhaps a bench in front.

Not only are they trying to phase them out, but as part of the offer to drivers the government is buying them and then scrapping them. That is the last straw for me.

Save the environment by putting new cars in their place that won't last and will probably be replaced in 5-10 years (new cars that created more pollution in their manufacture than the old cars do by running).

My interest in the W123 and older Benz models actually stems from growing up in Egypt. The W123 was just a common car growing up. North Africa loves the W123.
