seat rail lube

good morning,

my seat rails are crusty white and make a screeching sound when slid back and forth.

also, finally was able to use the lift function since its been frozen for quite some years.

I will probably pull the seats for thorough cleaning, and vacuuming underneath...

my question: what do you guys use to clean the rails of debris and corrosion.? and what do you use after to get everything lubed and smooth?

What year and model?

I refurbed my seat rails when I rebuilt my 240D seats a couple of years back. I seem to recall wire-brushing the light rust and dried grease off the rails once I had them disassembled. After that, I used brake parts cleaner. Then, I relubed with a lithium grease I had in the garage. Holding up fine so far.

Might sound weird but for long-term lubing I've had good luck with spray can motorcycle chain lube. It's slippery and is designed to stay put even at high chain speeds so it does really well in a situation where it's just sitting there. I use it on the door hinges of my truck. Any lube you use in a situation like that will try to attract junk (dust, flotsam and jetsam, etc.) so that will be a bit of an issue.
