I'm a college student in the process of rebuilding a 1985 300CD and need an affordable crankshaft ....Any ideas where I can find one?

Probably cheaper to find a used engine w/good crank. What's wrong with the old one? These are REALLY tough and I'd be surprised if the original is totaled unless run out of oil somehow.
If you really DO meed a crank I'd check w/VSTech or Charmalu. Both John and Charlie have a huge stock of parts. Greazzer has lots of stuff too so he'd be worth checking in with. A side note: If you do end up with a loose crank in your hands have a machine shop make the pilot bearing hole 35mm - it'll be 34mm if it's an '85 crank. That way if you ever want to switch to a manual trans the pilot bearing will fit. Guys - is there any reason to leave the pilot at 34mm on these? IIRC, the adaptor plate (flex plate on most cars) for the automatic doesn't center on that hole but it's been a while. Dan |

I have a good 82 300sd crank kicking around that I'd likely never do anything with. What is your location

I live in central Arkansas, near Little Rock and the car's here so I'd have to get it shipped here eventually....but I DO have an aunt that live in Atlanta......

There ya go, Arky! This forum is AMAZING!
Again, measure the pilot bearing hole - that should be 35mm if I have the story right. Then you can drop a pilot bearing right in there if you decide to convert to a manual trans. Dan |
