617 80 300SD and 300TD 617 head Interchangaeable?

As the title ask, are 617 heads from a 300TD and 300SD (from 1980) interchangeable?

The 300SD head says 617 016 03 01 with a few characters below that that are undecipherable.

From the sound of wikipedia it seems the om617.951 and om617.952 would indeed be interchangeable.

Thank you!

Yes but....

Assuming you mean a 123.193 (wagon) when you say "TD", that head will have the hydraulic pump that goes with the SLS. If your SD does not have SLS, the head is far more valuable to a wagon owner.

Thats the answer I was looking for, thank you!

I'll let wagon owners keep their heads.

Didn't the SDs of that era also have SLS?

The 450SEL and 6.9 did. To my knowledge I have not heard of any 300SD, unless it was custom.

The 300SD didn't come with SLS... it was sold only in North America and as the entry-level model. Some of the more expensive W126es did come with it (500/560 SEL/SEC), and in Europe you could get hydropneumatic suspension as well (I don't know if that was available here).

Or you could do what Raptelan planned to do, which was take a 6.9 and install an engine from a 300TD so it would have a pump to run the SLS. That would have been neat.

Any 617 head will fit on any 617 block, it's the things like prechambers, pistons, camshaft valve lift etc that vary

FWIW SLS is hydropneumatic

I have seen 123s with the leveling system. The wagon heads are very rare and if you need one they are tough to find.
