So I bought my current 190d from an old man who most likely hadn't opened the sunroof in 20 years or more. When I tried it, the gear in the cable shredded and it didn't budge.

Now I'm wondering if when I crank it open, if the weatherstripping will disintegrate and I'll be left with a whistling mess. I really wouldn't like that to happen. Anyone have any experience with this?

Its possible. i Had trouble with a sunroof on a car that i own and decided to caulk it shut with silicone. Crude but effective.
