Picture; Oil Filter caught Metal shavings after Oil Cooler Nipple repair.
When I do an Oil Change I pull out the Oil Filter first. When I set the Filter out to let it drain I saw Metal sticking out of the Filter.
Worried I continued with the Oil Change speculating on where the Metal came from. What worried me was less the 1 year ago while my Wife was driving the Water Pump leaked and the Engine over heated. My Wife parked the Car and waited till the Engine cooled off and drove to here destination and back home pulling over and stopping to let the Engine cool. However, she never added Coolant to replace the Coolant lost. After I replace the Water Pump and changed the Oil (I found no metal particles at that time) I drove the Car there was no symptoms of any sort of bearing damage like a knock or low oil pressure issues. After looking at the size if the Metal Particles I realize that the Particles were too big to pass through the Oil Filter. Then I thought that maybe the particles were from the Oil Pump Bearings but that did not make much sense because the Oil Pump is the best lubricated part of the Engine and it would be more likely to have rod or main bearings damaged. However, the particles would have had to pass through the Oil Pump Screen and were too large for that. As I took a closer look at the Particles I realize the particles must have come from the Oil Cooler when I drilled and tapped the Oil Cooler for the repair Nipples. I thought I had flushed out the Oil Cooler well but evidently that is was not the case. So now there is proof that any metal particles left in the Oil Cooler will get caught by the Oil Filter.

Those are definitely metal particles from your machine work on the oil cooler. Amazing!
