I started my 84 SD today.
After flushing the IP and old injectors and system, installing nozzles, adjusting valves, cleaning the alda line and installing a new fuel pressure relief valve (I'm guessing that's what it's called) I bled the hard lines turned the engine.
I pumped the primer on the lift pump 100 times but guessed that only filled the secondary filter and IP. I left all five of the hard lines loose at the injector and it took a surprisingly short amount of revolutions to fill the lines. I had no idea a 5 cyl diesel could produce that much torque. It no longer chugs along until it the turbo kicks in. This thing has a holeshot now. I'm so proud to have accomplished so much and so grateful to all you real mechanics/tech who guided me through the issues of low power, the once in a lifetime maintenance activities and got me flying again. Thank you much, gentlemen.

All too many of these older engines have not had a general tune up. Or it was so long ago they are long overdue. Few that we buy have any meaningful records.
