new compressor, do i need any new rubber things?
Hello all,
i am going to be mounting a new compressor either this or next weekend. I have bought an o-ring kit but am wondering if there are any other rubber pieces i need for my compressor? ( i have a new belt too). Also... 1. is it better to use pag 150 or pag 100 double bonded? 2. how much oil should i put in? 3. how much r134a should i be putting in? 1982 240d Thanks! What kind of compressor?
Make sure you use the right seals on the manifold if you are using an R4. Yellow and green IIRC.

You should also replace the receiver/drier and also the expansion valve.

what seals are you referring to (o-rings?) I ordered an o-ring kit so i am not sure if will be enough? I also did order an expansion valve and a new drier. It is a standard R4 compressor. |

Make sure to coat the O rings with refrigerant oil before installation. Your new compressor may already have oil in it. Check with your vendor. The vendor should also be able to tell you how much R 134 is required.

i also noticed that the recharge location in the 240d is in the passenger side under the dash. On most other cars i have worked on the recharging components are in the engine bay side of the firewall. Is there a schrader valve anywhere inside the engine bay for the 240d?

That is odd. The expansion valve is at the firewall then a short hop to the evaporator under the dash.
That is the wrong place for charging anyway. My 123 had both ports under the hood. The low port out in the open and the high port down low someplace awkward...

The high side charging port should be by the alternator, the suction port should be right in front of the top of the engine... I seem to remember it's by the power steering port or the fuel filter...

Worth noting that some of those old R4's that use o-rings are still floating around as refurbs. I installed on last spring in a friend's car. So if you're going refurb you'll need to get your hands on the compressor to know what type of seals/o-rings you'll need.
