Om603 injection element

My w123 5 cyl om617 has shims under the injection elements. Each element can also be rotated a little. This to adjust start of timing and fuel quantity.
My 87 om 603 6 cyl. Has no shims. How does the factory take care of both adjustments. Are these pumps manufactured to higher tolerances.
Thanks j

I don't recommend it. But, once you remove the side cover off of the Fuel Injection Pump it exposes the Rack. Moving the rectangular Blocks on the Rack changes the amount of fuel the Element puts out.

The begin injection on each element is adjusted with different sized shims on the top of the Fuel Injection Pump Tappets which push the Element Plungers from below.

Great. So the shims that were on top in the earlier pumps moved internally? Thank you. I was just curious how the "newer" pumps took care of that adjustment requirement.

The shims on the MW Fuel Injection Pump adjust the begin injectoion of each individual element by way of the flow/drip timing method.
When you do that in a Fuel Injection Shop bigin injection on #1 is ajusted to the timing marks on the front of the Fuel Injection Pump and the rest are adjusted in the fiering order with a Degree Wheel.

Changing the shimes either raises or lowers the Element outer body in ralation to the Element Plunger.

On the M type Fuel Injection Pump the Element Body remains stationary in ralation to the Element Plunger and you change the thickness of the Tappet shinm/plate that is under the Plunger.
Otherwise it is the same flow/drip timing method used on the MW Fuel Injection Pump.

The tappet shim/plate idea is used on a lot of companies inline fuel injectin Pumps as is the flow/drip timing of each element with a degree wheel.
