clogged vaccum nipple

hi guys,
i just got a extremely whipped 300sd 1984, the whole vaccum system is destroyed, all the hoses are just taped together and it looked to be fine but nothing is connected,
car shifts like crap, doesnt shut off, etc.

the vaccum line before it enters the booster . has 2 little nipples, one i get excellent reading and the other is very random, sometimes poor, sometimes nothing and sometimes almost enough, can i run a drill bit inside it? seems like its clogged? ive tried poking with a small wire and seems to make things worse then better,
what can i do?

I'd suggest starting with the basics. Check the vacuum at the vac pump and make sure you have a good vacuum source to begin with.

Vac pump checks out, invest a few bucks in some vacuum fittings and repair the vacuum system correctly. The little rubber connectors rot out and leak and you'll just be chasing leak after leak after leak with their affected problems.

Many times a fitting with "2 little nipples" is a check valve. If you run a drill bit in it, you ruin it. Check the vacuum diagram for your car and find out what that fitting is, if it's a check valve, get a new one. Sometimes you can find something that will work at Auto-Zone if it isn't too specialized.

Vacuum leaks can drive you crazy. Weird climate control issues, non-functioning door locks, hideously crappy transmission shifts, lack of key shutoff, etc. There's not too much to the vacuum system and it's definitely worth the time to repair it rather than patch a piece here and there.

Can you use Google search page?
If so go to search page and up the right hand side you will see Immages.
Click on immages it will open another search like the first one ,only this one will show pictures only , but this one is of anything you want to know about.
So in immage search put in what you want ie Mercedes 300d vacuum diagram dont forget to put the year on to the end. I found lots of them but as i dont know the model you have i was stuck .Please update your profile .To help us to help you.

Since you might be renewing some of the vacuum hoses the red arrow in the pic points to a plastic connector that is actually a restricted connection to reduce the vacuum maily to the transmission vacuum valve.

If it is still their don't lose if it is gone you might want to replace it.

Those connectors come in different colors corresponding to different orifice sizes.

On my 83 300SD I replaced the white restricted orifice connector with a drip irrigation needle valve.

This allowed me to 'dial-in" the restricted orifice size that was just right to obtain the downshift quality I wanted.

I am not sure if I should offer advice on fixing the vacuum system or based on the pictures of the car recommend that you scrap it - potentially from the looks of the car and your description the car is a hazard on the road.
