Sun Valley Rebuilt Transmissions thoughts?

Anyone bought from Sun Valley Transmission?

I've called them but I cannot seem to get them to commit to a time to bring my car in. The reason is they have a lot of orders. No available units.

Is this normal? I am a little confused. I feel like I'm chasing after them to take my money. Maybe there's no profit in a 722.303?

They haven't said no and they haven't said yes. It's just wait for our call for three weeks. It reminds me of being 16 trying to get a prom date.

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't wait around but I've heard they are the best for remanufactured Mercedes transmissions so I figured I'd wait by the phone.

Any experiences (or other suggestions?) or news with them?

I'm in the Los Angeles area. I just don't know who else to trust with such an important part like an automatic trans.

It's THE place in the country for Mercedes transmissions. Also means they have a heavy workload. Probably isn't helping your case that it's an old 722.3 when more money can be made on the 7-speed boxes they see alot.

I'd stay on them.

Nice offer especially for those that do not wish to spend or perhaps not even having the money for a total rebuild. As for sun valley they have developed a very good reputation over the years.

Sun Valley is great. I have bought two transmissions from them over the past 5 years for two different cars and no problems. Marc and his staff are great.

Thanks for the info. I will stay with them. I think I'll just have to buy a beater car to drive around while I'm waiting.

I recently bought a reman tranny from them for my 90 300D. Marc was excellent through the whole process and even afterwards when I had the tranny installed. I highly recommend them.

If you can...go with Sun Valley

I now have over 200,000 on my Sun Valley rebuild. No leaks, great shifts, runs smooth.

I live in San Diego County and waited until they had a rebuild on hand. Old trans had about 225,000 on it and was leaking fluid from the front trans pump & flaring 3rd to 4th. For the price of a pro reseal job elsewhere, I drove up, paid for a rebuilt unit, and sat in their waiting room while they installed it. Never looked back.

Ok, wow. May I ask how long it took to get from first contact to bringing your car in?

I'm kind of in the waiting zone and I was wondering if this was even going to go forward. I take it this just Marc's business style.

All of the above illustrates the no win situations shops sometimes face.

If they are truthful with the customer and tell they they can't take on any more work at the present time, they receive bad marks from the potential customer and could lose the sale.

It they told customer " bring it in and we will get to it" and it sat for months and months, they would get bad marks as well. However, there is a chance the customer will let the car sit there hoping the shop get to it. In that case, the shop is less likely to lose a sale than if they were truthful with the customer.

It took about three weeks...for me that was about two quarts of trans fluid.

Maybe have the trans pulled and dropped off for the rebuild. A friend of mine who was in a time crunch did that and said it worked out well.

I'm not in a time crunch. I'll wait. The service you got is just what I'm hoping for.

I may buy another car just to drive around in the meantime. I may want to pick up an M103 powered w124 just to see what it's like if I have to wait a few weeks.

SL320 thanks for the advice on how the business works. I've been driving my diesels so long I forgot what it was like to take a car in to a pro and have it worked on.
