1985sd evap cleaning ?

Could use some help, I want to clean evaporator coil.
Can I reach through center vents?
I dropped the ducts under dash and removed carpets, I feel fins through flap opening on both driver and passenger side.

I read WHunter link about scrubbing bubbles, so I went to Home Depot and go to cans and a few feet of 3/8 tubing and shot both sides full.

Removed drain on passenger side and shot some up through there but No Drainage of any kind
Took garden hose with small stream and feed in same opening but again No Drainage unless I shoot through drain then I get some.

What Am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

I think DMorrison made a good thread on this type of cleaning... in the archives...

I think you just cleaned your heater core. I have no idea if that will drain. I removed my aux fan and sprayed foaming evaperator cleaner in through one of the openings under there. Honestly I cant really describe where to insert it very well, I just felt around until i found the top of the evap. It's more or less above the expansion valve

IIRC, someone mentioned that the best way on the W126 was by removing the blower and cleaning the evaporator from there.

Thanks, I remember that also,( about 2 am ) Morrison thread is great but doesn't apply to 300sd.

While I have the rugs out and ducts I will drop the blower and give that a try.

Thanks for your help

On the W123, space from housing to evaporator gets narrower from the blower motor opening as you go in further (wedge shape). Not sure if yours is the same. If same, be very careful so as not to crunch the fins with whatever tool you put in there. Inspecting with a borescope before and after cleaning is a good idea. An even better idea is to have the borescope attached to the cleaning "tool" so you can see what you are doing.

I would strongly suggest you try to figure out where that water & cleaner leaked to before it causes mildew. It might be under the rear carpet. Also make absolutely sure your drain tube is in good shape before you add any more cleaner. I replaced mine with heavy heatshrink tubing

Edit. I should mention that I initially misread your model of car. My experience is with a w123 but is probably still accurate

Thanks again for everyone's help. I will be careful with cleaning, also the water has come out both sides to floor pans, yeh I was worried about the possibilties too.
The floor carpets and knee panels are off and will stay off until I feel comfortable.
