door frame plastic trim

My interior on the 84' 300D is pretty good shape but I have two things driving me nuts... the lid of the first aid kit is so brittle it breaks when you look at it. Also, the drivers door window frame has the standard plastic trim that covers up the painted metal surface. As is the case with many of them, the heat of summer gets them weakened and brittle. Mine is okay but for the bottom 4 inches on the back edge so I took an exacto and cut away the cracked part. Is there a way to get new ones? I have a silver exterior with navy/dark blue interior. Otherwise, very happy with this for my work car!

JMH,

The cover on my med kit has the same problem....old age brittleness. I've superglued it several times. Don't know if they sell new ones but we both need to locate a better used one. Someones inoperable car that spent less time in the sun I suppose.

Some people just remove the kit and replace with a small subwoofer or another car speaker. Not a bad idea given the small possibility that we will ever use the ancient medical supplies in the kit. But I hate to remove anything original.

with regard to the door trim

All mine were totally cooked- very wavy and ugly. Actually, the dash is cooked as well. I guess that is to be expected in a New Mexico and San Diego car.

I just removed them, the paint underneath is nice, and when the door is shut, you can't tell that there even is plastic trim.

If you do find a source, post it, I might be interested.

I had gone to an upholstery shop to see if they had anything that might work. I bought some navy vinyl cloth and I think the webbing underneath is too coarse to allow it to form to the contours needed for the door frame. So onward I will seek the plastic trim around the tur... Ich mögte nicht!

Über die medinischbücsh, ich habe faserglase zunutze machen.

Das ist alle! Viel glück!

After only a few years, I replaced the plastic door/window trim on my now deceased 80 240D with new trim from dealer. In just a few more years, the replacement trim was "crinkled". I removed the trim and continued to enjoy the car without the trim. 'First thing I did to 81 300D acquired from friend 2+ yrs ago was remove the trim - 'haven't been worried/concerned at all about its absence.
