What parts to save and what parts thrown out?

Have had it: need to get rid of most of the stuff from the '79 wagen. What parts should be saved and what parts thrown out?

Is there some plastic and fabric parts that can survive the 140 degree plus attic temperatures? Got the rear seats up there, didn't think the fronts were worth saving and in the scrap pile.

The interior panels are in good usable shape and being tobacco from the Midwest, not faded. Most of the carpet beat, but saved up in the attic for the plastic bits.

Anyone need any parts of these?

Thank y'all for your help in advance!

John, where else was I to put them?

Just so y'all know, don't and can't have a storage shed like I planned.

Obviously no interest, since been all this time and no response. Kind of bothers me, but at least saved some parts from the crusher (most likely where it was headed when I bought it).

I'd save the wagon-unique bits as much as possible. Rear gate, all the SLS components, rear axle carriers / springs, rear tail lights, rear bumper, maybe more that I can't think of. Antenna? Rear washer fluid tank?

Save the head with the SLS pump, even though it is none-turbo they are rare.

Max, thank you so very much for the reply!

Kind of thought saving the TD parts was a no brainer. Plan is to drag the back half in the corner of the yard and save it. The way folks drive, figured be good to have so insurance doesn't total (have the value below what I purchased for and can't afford good insurance). Still have yet to figure out how to make water proof without the use of tarp(s). Like it to be somewhat neat since will be viable.

Hadn't really thought of the engine, as think I have space outside for that. It needs at least piston rings. Crazy plan was to use it as a power source. Are whole engines actually worth saving?

Front fenders too rusted, so was going to cut the flat parts out for sheet steel. If have time. Hood is with another and the front doors on the side of the house (just barely room).

Tram already has the roof with complete sunroof. Front end whacked off to pull the engine Baja style, but the engine mounts giving a fit, so plan to just get the saw out and cut behind the springs. Not like anyone would need that part. Did do a neat job on the front end so can be cleanly put on.

Just remember:

If you save it, you probably won't ever need it...

but if you don't, within two weeks you'll find that you did need it

....you can't win

John, thank you for the challenge: soon as saw this, got up and did it. If had been less in a hurry, wouldn't have accidentally cut though the carrier and the front part of the emergency brake cable and its once beautiful rubber. Also, the scariest was going underneath and getting the cable undone with it cut only half way through. But, only took 15 minutes.

Also, now think made it worse to get the engine moved. Almost could lift either half, but thought better of yesterday's plan.

Tried cutting the engine out, but getting an odd noise from the Harbor Freight saw so thought give it a rest. Plus, really humid out there.

In the end, feels good to get some frustration out and make some progress.

Oh, John, that reminds me about stout. My brother comes over to visit, we go out in the back. While I am talking to his wife, he is over at the '79 opening and shutting the back door. I ask him what is he doing. He states he is amazed how nice, neat, and strait the door shuts despite the top half and the pillars cut.

Also, about saving stuff. I got a small piece of land and a 1248 square foot house I am swatting (long and complicated story). If had to go, rather not have to feel bad about good parts being thrown out.

So, save the TD and hardware and toss the rest?

I know exactly how you feel. I have a white 84 SD body that's going to be hauled to the salvage yard in a short while because of storage space. Perhaps a good 380 engine and transmission with it.

I still haven't asked if the 722.303 and .31 are close enough to interchange.
