Wrong modulator

I just learned that my '81 300D has a transmission out of a '84 or '85 500SEC, behind a 617. ??? motor.

While under the car I looked at the modulator It's RED. Is this correct? some sites I've go to show a black valve and others show a red one.

What effect will the modulator from a W123 have on a W126 transmission?

Although the part# on the tag that has been attached to the trans corresponds to a 722.311, that does not necessarily ensure that the trans is a 722.311. (An original, stamped in # is much more likely to correspond.)

There can be some doubt in this instance; the diameter of the convertor housing (bell housing) for the V-8 engines is larger than that for the inline engines by about 2".

With the original stamp gone, is there another way to determine correct model number?

I think Brotherton was IN Florida...

sometimes it just takes someone who knows to say ' look for thus and so' and it is a ' whatever'..
