Wiring a 1983 trans to a 1977 W123

I am trying to wire in the harness for my '83 transmission into the '77. The '77 had the tall rectangular plug, while the '83 trans has the circular one with turning lock +1 wire that plugs in near the output shaft.

I have the +1 wire figured out and the others' color code matches up to what was there, so I just assume that'd be the same. But, there is a purple and a purple/white wire on the '83 side and a brown and a brown/yellow wire on the '77. I don't want to assume that purple goes to brown and purple/white goes to brown/yellow. I tried flipping through my Hayne's manual for the wiring diagrams, but they are organized so horribly. I tried physically tracing the wires and it seems they go to to the center console or beyond. I ohm'd out the brown wire and it was getting continuity with some of the browns in the window and hazard switch. Weird?

Are these for the reverse lights?

Forum isn't letting me attach or embed photos...I'll try again later.

I had a similar problem in my 617->107 engine swap. What I did was build a pigtail adapter
