Fuses

Yes I seem to go thru pretty many fuses in my 300sd just the other day I had a situation where when I run wvo and have the switch turned on I was getting a slight discharge on my volt meter guage when guage is neutral position on diesel everything charging normal after searching for hours I found a slight crack in the top of the 16 amp. fuse that is its power source have attached picture of fuse. My question is I think I have read that you can get an all copper fuse or something like it in all different amp ratings that would be more durable. Where can they be purchased at as I am sick of hunting for these blown fuses that can be very tricky to spot.

Copper fuses

I've heard the copper fuses are better. The old metal fuses get pitted and cause increased electrical resistance which causes problems on other components than just the fuse it's made for, though I'm probably repeating that back wrong from the person who told me that.

You can get an entire set of copper fuses for maybe all of $12 or so. Call anyone who sells MB parts, check Pelican Parts see what they have.

There is also pointed Buss type Fuses. Don't know if they would work better or not.

I have pulled some pointed buss fuses from Volvos in the Junk Yard. There is a thread somewhere that gives a place to order them from but that was like 5 years ago.

I found this im my notes: Pointed Fuses bus Type Pointed Fuses post #3

"Buss Fuses post #3
There is a third choice if dependability is more important to you than originality. Buss fuses are available in a "G" series made of stainless steel and glass to replace the ceramic fuses. These "G" series are the correct length, have the correct "pointed" ends and are available in various amperages. They never corrode or tarnish and may be more readily available from your local hardware store or NAPA. See the photo below."

It might also be helpful to find out exactly what amps are being pulled with an ampmeter.

In my pic note that the actual fuse bracket/termials are buggerd and need to be cleaned up. Note that the strip part of the fuse is in good condition but the nose of the fuse is not.
