'83 240D climate control vacuum leak

1983 240D automatic. 208k miles. Getting everything working to put it on the road for the first time since 1998. Drivetrain is good.

The green vacuum line going into the passenger compartment is apparently related to the climate control system.
When I disconnected and plugged off the vac line, my auto trans started shifting nicely! But now I want to make the climate control work.

While I scour this and other sites for info, maybe somebody can offer suggestions as to where to look first?

I have the center console apart at the moment and the lower panels off. I see a loop of the green vac line to the right of the steering column, but I can't tell where it goes from there.

So far I've not found docs on debugging this.

Thanks in advance for help.

By "Climate Control" you mean ac? It should have a manual dial to rotate for the ac, if it doesn't engage the ac clutch I am guessing there is propably no refrigerant after sitting that long. The green vac line is likely related to the door lock system which if leaky negatively affects the tranny shifting as you found out.

I posted this in your other thread about the same subject.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/380154-tracking-vac-leak-green-line-climate-240d.html

There is a air recircualtion flap that is controlled by vacuum on a 240D. I believe the green line goes to an electrical switch overvalve and then leads to the vacuum pod.
It's all behind the glove compartment box and remove the dashboard knee panel to see the line.

Green with yellow stripe tube is for the climate control. Door locks are yellow/red and yellow/green

Correct the 240D just has a single valve and pod for recirculation. The valve is activated by turning the temperature wheel to Max. It is fed by the green hose from the brake booster line tap.
