Stuck prechamber 617

I rounded up the special tools to pull my number 4 prechamber out I will attach picture what glow plug looked like. I have been pounding and pounding and it is not budging. I even attached a 5lb. Barbell weight to the slide hammer not budging. Would it help if I heat the head in that area but I would'nt want to crack or warp it. Maybe I should try to fill the cyl. with marvel mystery oil or some kind of penetrating oil, or trans. fluid? I think I will quit for now and get a new plan of attack.

Heat and penetrating oil would be a good strategy....

You might also consider fabbing up something like this, preferably in conjunction with heat, and maybe some slide hammer action too.

Might also tap on the prechamber to see if you can get a bit of inward movement movement that can coupled with slide hammer the opposite direction to get it to break loose.

Good luck...

^^^ that is a good tool in the pic. I would make it so you can use the power of breaker bar.

yuke, you got a picture of the slide hammer and it's specs? Just curious maybe your slide hammer is undersized even though you attached the 5lbs weight.

I assume you removed the GP and Lock Ring.

I have pulled a bunch of them at PNP in the past. It usually takes a good 25 whacks with
the Slide hammer to get them out.

The most difficult one was when I forgot to remove the GP.
Sure messed up the hole in the PC.

I tried fabing a puller that I could pull it usinq the threads on the slide hammer just wound up stripping the threads on 3/8" slide hammer so I quit or I'd be out the slide hammer also.I did not try heat on the head yet Im so afraid of cracking it. Almost seems to me the only way to get this prechamber out is take the head off and from inside out pound if Im gonna do all that I might as well just get started on putting another motor in. The tip of the glow plug was either burned off or broke off as you can see in the picture maybe that has something to do with it coming out so hard. I am having trouble posting pictures my tablet says its low on memory I will keep trying yes I did forgot to remove glow plug at first but I quickly realized it then took it out had trouble even taking that out but got it out.

This is one of the other type of Prechamber pulling Tools from Mercedes.
See the pics.
The 2 circular spots on the tool sit on the top of 2 of the Head Bolts and the flat area sits on the flat part of the head where the Valve Cover seals.

This is the slide hammer I used. It is the same as the Autozone Free Rental Slide Hammer. It has 5/8x18 threads.

The european made prechamer pullers are threaded for a 12mm something slide hammer and the US made prechamber pullers are made for the 5/8x18.

But note how long the shaft is on the slide hammer weight which in fact is about 5 pounds.
I recently did another job where My slide hammer was not long for the weight to clear the parts so I used a 36" long 5/8x18 threaded rods and nuts and the 5 pound weight from the real slide hammer.

Does anyone think that hosing out the inside of the Prechamber with some of the freeing spray and quickly installing the puller and slide hammer and trying to get it out would work?

How about some chunks of dry ice?

I have never tried either or the above.

This is another type of Prechamber Puller but it is less sturdy then the Mercedes one.

Where can I get a tool like that diesel? I think I would have better luck with that type of puller rather then a slide hammer. Im really starting to think my prechamber is fused or welded in there somehow. I tried to make a screw type puller but my home made 3/8 x 24 threads could'nt take started to get chewed up so I quit.

pour some Kroil down the around the prechamber and wait a day then try it. Or a 50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid. The 50/50 mix is a better bet to loosen it.

Only problem with trying to get some freeing agent down there MT is that the chamber has a collar on top and will not let much if any lube go down the side where its probably froze and they have a couple of small holes on the bottom so what ever you put in will probably just leak out the bottom onto top of piston. I did locate a good tool puller but they want $160 for it I already spent $140 do not feel like spending $300 just to get the prechambers pulled. I might go back to the drawing board tomorrow and hopefully make a tool that will get chamber pulled.

If you build a puller, you might consider finding some acme threaded all-thread and nuts. (Square profile threads like a bench vice) - its less likely to strip. Though I have never used one of those pullers so I dont really know if it will work with that.

You didn't pull the collar first?
