1982 240d manual tranny - removed vacuum lines

I have a 1982 240d with a 4 speed manual transmission.
As a test, I removed some of the vacuum lines and capped them off with golf tees.
I capped off the metal port to the injection pump and the plastic piece connected to the injection pump(I think this is supposed to be for the transmission but not sure why since it's a manual transmission).

I've noticed no difference in the driving. I'm also blocked off the EGR so there is no need for vacuum going to that.

Am I damaging the engine or getting worse performance by doing this?

Please look at picture.

Thanks.

pete

You can actually remove that entire plastic unit (VCV) from the IP if you wanted, it's not doing anything, nor are your golf tees Somebody fitted an IP from an auto car. Or swapped gearboxes...

Interesting. So the original manual tranny car didn't come with that?

Thanks.

Only ones that did were the later automatics that needed vacuum to modulate the shifts (722.3? out of my depth here).

NZScott got it.
Take the VCV off and keep it as it is NLA as I remember.
You may need it if you get a W123 or W126SD, they were used on those auto trans.
Or some one else may be looking for one.

I have seen the VCV`s on 240`s in the yards with manual gear boxes. probably a trans swap and they left it on not knowing what it is or does.

Come to think of it, my 82 240 parts car has one.

Mystery solved as to why you had a VCV on a manual, from your other post a week or so ago- I was wondering if the engine was swapped in..
