Mercedes 722.3 front pump seal (with pics)
I am replacing the front pump in my 722.3 transmission.
I have a question about the round seal in the pictures below. The old pump has it deeper inside the opening, the new pump has it flush with the edge of the opening. Which is correct? Old pump: http://i.imgur.com/LyklAug.jpg New pump: http://i.imgur.com/OgoQmT5.jpg The reason for replacing the pump is the broken tabs that are driven by the torque converter. |
Is the new pump a brand new pump?

I replaced the seal on one of mine, it was flush so I installed the new one flush. I also checked my spare pump in the garage, it is flush.
It is possible that this seal was replaced, and driven in further to move it to a new wear surface on the TC, just speculating here. |

Also: you keep a spare pump just in case? Sweeeeet! |
Kept a spare pump, spare transmission, two spare 603s, ... getting rid of it all, have already thrown many good used 124/140 parts in the trash, ... harder to give parts away than you'd think.

Finally! Got the engine and transmission re-assembled and dropped it in this weekend. The car runs and it does go in gear. Haven't taken it for a drive yet, that will be tomorrow. I am into delayed gratification :)
I have a few more things that I need to address that I will be posting separate threads about. The car purrs like a kitten. I am SO psyched to have it running again!!! |
