603s. Sell or part?

Im tired, and need space.

I have decided to part with my 603 hobby, at least for now. My question is whether there is any market for used 603s, or whether I should sell the valuable parts and scrap the rest.

The facts:

I live in the far NE corner of Indiana, and have no means of transporting nor shipping engines. Further, the enthusiast population for diesel Mercedes seems to be nowhere near me.

I have a complete OM603.971, and an OM603.960 complete except head assembly (both of which were my drivers before removal).

So, is it worth trying to sell as pick-up only and see if anyone will actually make the trip, or should I sell parts like head, manifold, turbo, IPs, timing cover, etc. and just scrap the engines?

Opinions?

It costs nothing to list them here and on CL. Do that for a month or two to gauge interest. .96 bottom ends are stout. The only demand is .97 conversions and I don't read of a lot of that still going on. Priced right, someone might take it for the IP and solid front cover. The .97's value is in the head. Again, priced right, someone might take it for the head.

If you were in striking distance I'd drop the .97 into this SD for kicks.

You're done. List on CL and take the 1st offer. Don't tell them that you're done, just say yes or no when given an offer. Time is too short.

Thumbs up

If you have this timing cover - 601 015 06 01, I would be willing to purchase it.

Cost to ship an engine?

Anyone have an idea how much it costs to ship an engine, say from Indiana to California?

Around Philly the price for scrap is really low at about $.035 to $.05 per Lb without towing costs. I cant imagine its much better in IA, so parting them out at least you would get something for your effort. Either part or give away to your favorite charity and take the tax deduction.
