My wiper motor makes this loud squealing sound when it is cold out. The first time I heard it it scared the crap out of me. Why is it doing this? The wiper works fine when it does this. It only squeals when it comes up from the hood but not on its way back down. Sometimes it goes away quickly, sometimes the length of the sound gets shorter. But why only when it's cold out (below 0C)?

I had a similar problem and I took off the grills and cowl panel and lubed all the joints in the wiper mechanism and that got rid of the noise. Takes a while because of the effort to remove the cowl panel but it's worth it. Good luck!
