1999 E300D accelerator pedal whine noise

My 1999 E300D is emitting a whining high-pitched noise from under the dash when the accelerator pedal hits a certain position, approximately 2/3rd of the way down in its travel.

The sound is similar to the sound that an air or vacuum slight leak might make, it's almost like a whistling horn type sound.

This only happens as stated when the pedal is at about 2/3rds, below 2/3rds or beyond the noise stops.

Anyone have any idea as to what this may be?

the cars drivability and [performance is not affected.

Thank you all

Yup, I have a faint whistle, whine or noise like you describe when accelerating. Also, no prefomance issues either. I have no idea what it is and ok with leaving it be.

Me too. Next time I am under the hood I will check the hose between the manifold and MAP sensor, maybe it has a pin hole leak or something.

I vaguely remember someone else asking this question and the answer was something to the extent of that's normal and how the acceleration system works in the older MBZ; with the vacuum of the pedal. I'll try to find the exact response and report back. Sorry for the ambiguity.

Thank you, Dmitry.... as I have scoured the web with no success in even finding a remote mention of this problem..... I really LOVE this car and have no reservations about digging into it and learning more!

Thank you so much!

Only if the 210 has HIDs, and on the 210 the headlight adjusters are electrical servo motors, not vacuum pods as in the earlier models. There are sensors on the front and rear sway bars that send a signal to a control module, which drives the servos. The old system was a manual knob on the dash that sent vacuum to the light adjusters.

Vacuum pods on my 97 e300td w210 ..I had trouble changing the main light switch last week as the two purple plastic lines are in the way and I had to thread the switch around at angles to get it into place.

I think that was a Euro only thing. US spec W210s are as I described above.

FINALLY...... PROBLEM SOLVED!!!..... Hoses from cooler to turbo charger, clamp was tight but not applying enough pressure to seal completely and at higher rpms (just before transmission shifts) the "vacuum" for the turbo increases and creates the unusual sound.... REPLACE THE CLAMPS!... I hope this helps someone else because I've been chasing this down for months
