Exclamation 1980 240d - Throttle linkage mount FUBAR?

Hey, guys. The name's Jack and I'm new to the forum here. For the sake of time I'll cut short the intro. (Btw, is there an introduction thread somewhere? Didn't see one.)

The short version is that four weeks ago I picked up a (seemingly) very good condition 1980 240d 4-speed manual with an accurate odo reading of 100,0xx. Considering the low miles, my first thought was that this car runs pretty rough and has a lot of blowby in idle.

Today I had planned to do a valve adjustment to see if that would remedy the problem. When I started disconnecting the throttle linkage I noticed that the mount that connects it through the firewall is totally shot. (#35 in the below diagram)

All the rubber around it looks like it's melted. The bearing isn't connected to anything and doesn't enter the firewall, it's just being held up by the mount.

Can anyone name this piece and tell me how to go about fixing it? I've been driving the car and the throttle response seems pretty normal, which is hard to believe after seeing this.

I did mine a few years ago and it was super easy. It looks like your part is different than the one for my '85 TD. The part number I used was 123-300-23-25 and it cost $15. You should be able to look up the correct part number for your car using your vin on the Mercedes EPC. If you don't have a subscription there, stop everything and get one now.

If you have not already noticed the one in the diagram does not match the actual one that you have on your Car. Different years and Engine may have different ones.

The one in the diagram matches the one that would go on my 84 300D. Behind part #35 is a sort of a plastic Ball. The Plastic balls wear and crumble away and the bonded rubber on part #34 can delaminate or other wise rot apart.

In the Mercedes Service Manual there is specific length measurements for each of the Linkage Rods.

I believe 1233000040 is the correct part number. See Post #3.

It was also listed in the link in Post # 2 by TheDon, (third item in the Accelerator Pedals and Parts portion of the webpage).

A google image search yields many matches to the photo in Post #1.

Bear in mind the two halves of the white split socket (of the ball and socket type joint)
have fallen out and gone AWOL, as the rubber that was holding it in the metal bracket has deteriorated.

The threaded gray plastic ball of the joint is still attatched to the metal throttle rod.

If you do a Google Images search "mercedes part 1233000040"
pictures will come up and they do appear to match your 80 240D.

The Don and Alec300SD posted the correct part.

You mentioned it not going through the fire Wall...It does not.
The horizontal rod fits into a sleeve/ball that is part of the mount.
It is still there in your failed mount.

The vertical rod that comes up along the Fire Wall, pushes on the Horzontal rod at that rubber dampner.
