Mercedes Turbo Diesel engine OM603.961 Complete 3.0 Engine Runs great No blow by | eBay

hey guys let me know what you think about this motor. I was thinking this
would be cool hooked to my 190 5 speed and stuffed into my 78 240

it has the 14 head casting ?? head is supposed to be good right now but ??

if the head did ever fail how hard would it be to get a replacement ?

If you're near me I have a 603.960 long block and a complete 603.971 with all of the late parts to make that 3.0 run like a 3.5, for sale.
Late head
Late timing chain cover
Late vacuum pump
3.0L and 3.5L IPs
Bigger garrett turbo
Euro exhaust manifold
Afterglow
Etc.
I don't think that a 603 will bring that much money, I expect a good complete one is closer to $800-$1,000 for a decent one.

Looks pricey, given the risk of it even working for you. Does your 240 have room to go from 4 to 6 cylinder? I have read of people installing a 5 cyl.

I bought an OM617.952 turbo off craigslist for $300 and came w/ starter and other accessories. Turned out to have like-new compression and appeared recently rebuilt. But that was unusually lucky.

That vendor is David Hendy, who is fairly active on this forum. I have only bought a couple of things from him over the years, but he has always been fair and honest.

603/606 will fit in a W123 and you only need to use factory engine mount arms. I looked st a 606 swap for my 240D and I can't recall if it's W126 engine mount arms you need or a combo. But there's so work to be done to make it happen

So this is a nice engine but maybe i should try and find one with a later model head casting number? I like it obviously vause its higher power rating and will work with the 5 speed i came up with

Is there a better motor i could come up with? More power? More reliable? I just want to stay away from anything with a computer

Want 100% mechanical. Really not happy even about the power windows in my car
