Actually it is the 1991 "126" mount that has the bolt holes on the 45* corner vs the 123 which have the bolt holes on the mount side (or 90*)

Or maybe you are thinking "once mounted" they would be sit at a flat twisted 45* angle.

Anyway the eBay linked Hamburg Technic mount is one of the "inexpensive" brand options that I had tried with unsatisfactory longevity and vibration dampening.

For another $45 or so I would recommend you go with the Genuine brand. No question.

At $70 a piece, not dirt cheap but a lot less than some other era similar MB's. Looks like my '86 SDL mounts have gone to $120 a piece.

I don't know what math you are using "For another $45 or so I would recommend you go with the Genuine brand. No question." The ebay price for two is a little over $60 delivered, and everywhere else $150 + shipping for Genuine. That makes it about $90 plus shipping more, not $45.
Yes you are correct, the mounts would sit at a 45* angle flat.....Rich

Sorry, my mistake. I thought the price was for one vs. both sides. Irony is if price is any indicator, I think you'll find false economy if your going to keep the car. Not to mention vibration. I know you've put a lot of work into that baby. Cheap rubber at critical locations i.e. powertrain, & suspension is usually not a great thing for these W126's.

So I'll change my recommendation to read: "For another $90 or so I would recommend you go with the Genuine brand. No question."

Any way just sharing my experience.

I was wondering if you were using "Common Core" math
Yes, even though I don't like the price, it seems the best way to go. Of course there is always URO!

That's why sometimes it doesn't make any sense to pay the dealer price for the exact same part. Pelican has the Lemforder parts for under $20. Would I pay $100 extra for the *EXACT* same part with a tri-star on it? I wouldn't and I didn't.

His car is a 350sdl vs our 300sdl's. Different mount. No $20 Lemforders available from the Peach. I'd imagine that's why he posted in the first place.

We agree... prefer not to pay dealer price. And yes I used Lemforder mounts made in Turkey by Phoenix. Same as you. Same as the dealer model only the star logo is partially ground off.

The point was...buy good rubber, even if ya can't find the magical same genuine unit under a different label.

I saw the difference between the mounts and for a while wondered if he could get away with using the old style turned on an angle like someone else suggested, but figured it probably wouldn't damp the vibrations correctly if he did.

I really have to wonder though....why change the engine mount so late in the production run? If it worked for the rest of the models up to that point, why not that one?

Good question. The engineers might not have known that it was near the end of the production run. You just never know what was in the minds of those German engineers back then.@

Prolly due to the huge increase in power (kidding). And who knew angling them would bend rods (still kidding...maybe). lol

Why did they install a driveshaft with 3 sections for just the 1991 model year 3.5 cars (no other W126 got a 3 piece shaft)?
Why did they change the differential? (OK, I guess we know that one... slightly taller gearing to make up for the lower redline, and a bigger ring gear to handle the extra torque)
Why did they put a parallel flow AC condenser on just the 91 model year 3.5 cars (Did W140s get a parallel flow condenser from the start? I know they were all 134a.)
Why did they remove the piston cooling channels from the 3.5?
Why do the 91 3.5 cars get unique suspension spring pads?

I'd love to know more of the the inside story.

Have you seen this document I scanned a few years ago? http://eva2.homeip.net/mb91/1990-1991_turbodiesels.pdf

Maybe you can buy the cheap 123 mount and fill them with Shore A 30 urethane if it's a strength issue.

Changed them, what a difference!

I ordered the set of H T mounts from the auction site and installed them. WOW! what a difference it made! The engine is so smooth, after starting it up after the install, I didn't think the engine was running. I guess I was so used to the vibration and noise, I thought the engine didn't start it was so quiet. Only after looking at the tach did I realize the engine was running. I was also happy that is was quite easy to do. The left side bolts were accessed very easy from the top. The right side needed to be done from the bottom, but still not that bad. It only took me about a half hour to replace both mounts. We will see how long they last, I just couldn't make myself pay for Genuine mounts at $70+ each......Rich

I have a set of engine mounts still new and unused. I bought them for my 123 and then never used them. Would they work?

Sorry, no. That is why the 350SDL mounts are so expensive, they are only for '90 & '91
