What is the easiest way to change out the glow plug near the fire wall? I've changed the other 4 but the one near the fire wall is proving to be problematic for me & my tools are limited which makes the process hard. Any & all suggestions are appreciated.

You should always indicate the year and model, which lets us know the specific motor involved.


Generally I used a closed end wrench to start the extraction then work my fingers in once the thing will turn by itself (assuming it does). It's painfully awkward and slow at best. It's not uncommon to find on a newly purchased car that someone gave up and just replaced the other four glowplugs.


If you have large mitts like mine, you may want to enlist someone with smaller hands to help out. My neighbor is a small guy but even he complains when he gives me a hand on the rear most glowplug. Even on the install.

That is the one I start with, then go to number 1 furthest one to the front. It is tough just takes patience and getting those two out of the way before the cussin starts helps. Also the ratcheting box wrench helps with removing, reaming and replacing. I also tie a thread around the reamer in case I loose grip and it falls, as it never drops to the ground usually winds up wedged and need to get at it with a telescoping magnet without the thread.

You also could use one of the methods in the repair links to ream out or clean out the Carbon from the Glow Plug holes.
