Problem With Rod By Accelerator Pivot Mount

Hi All,

I just did a valve adjustment on my 1984 300D. After putting everything back together, the car seems much happier, however it looks like I can extend the rod with the accelerator pivot mount much further than before and there is a piece of rubber that is split.

I have tried pulling it out and pushing it in and when driving around the block it does not seem to make a difference or cause a problem. I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this or if it is a real problem. I'm pretty sure I put everything together right.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Dkr.

Can't tell in your photo, but sounds like the rubber isolator split. That happened in my 1985 300D years ago when driving home. I thought I was running low on fuel (low on the gage). Turns out pressing the accelerator wasn't moving the engine off idle. At that time, I removed and wrapped steel wired around it to keep the rubber closed since new ones cost ~$90. Since then, I have a bag of spares from junkyards. But, I didn't notice a difference with the rubber missing, so a solid fix will work someday when there are no decent spares. They put many such comfort items in these cars for the spoiled rich that aren't really needed and decrease reliability.

There is supposed to be a circlip that keeps the end of the shaft from popping out of the bracket.
It appears your circlip might be AWOL.
You might not have full rack travel if there is too much slop in the pivot bushing.

With the engine off, have a buddy depress and hold the accelerator pedal all the way down.
In the engine compartment see if you can rotate the throttle shaft to provide some additional rack travel.

If you can get more rack travel even with the accelerator pedal fully depressed, you might need to adjust your linkage and/or replace the whole pivot bushing or perhaps just the circlip.

The pivot mount MB part number 123-300-13-40 is available from the forum sponsor.

It would really be lucky if you only needed the circlip as Alec300SD said.

Behind the metal plate that screws in to the Fire Wall is a Plastic Ball. That Plastic Ball falls a part over time and use.

Thanks. I'm going to put in another pivot mount tomorrow. It was on my list for 2017, so I was going to do it anyways. I'll see if that takes care of it. Strange, the car drives just fine.
