Talking Euro. Wagon Club ?

Is there such a thing ? .

Can I join ?

I just bought a real weirdie : a European 300TD that was purchased in Germany new then Federalized (including EGR valve) before it was shipped to Sunny Southern California where it has been ever since . not a spec. of rust on it .

Dents though .

A lister here hipped me to it , THANK YOU !! .

I don't think I got it quite cheap enough to join the Cheap Wagon Club but it was cheap considering it only has 120,000 miles .

Needs some body work but I fixed the gushing oil leak (pix soon) and drove it in from Montecito , Ca. .

It comes with several thousand dollars in recent repairs, new ball joints upper & lower , new brake calipers , rebuilt AL117X Bosch alternator , days old 950 CCA battery , new power antenna mast so it works *perfectly* etc.

The clear plastic folder in the glovebox contains clear Ca. title and reggie to next February as well as ALL the European booklets and warranties etc. , thoughtfully printed in English....

Hell , even the dash binnacle lights work !

Two original master keys in VGC .

There's more but I am well pleased , this will give me something to do for a while yet , SWMBO liked the Internet pictures so I hid it in a subterranian garage in L.A. and will have it detailed to the max before bringing it home .

Paint code 684 IIRC ~ anyone know the proper name ? or have a link to a paint chart ? .

TIA ,

Post OBTW :

I of course now need a set of European headlights...

Maybe the rear headrests as the DPO removed them and *thinks* I might get them . (someday)

Euro delivery count?

My '79 has a European Delivery badge. Could be bogus, but seems unlikely. Heated leather seats!

The 280 certainly counts, but it probably won't ever move under its own power again. Just bought it for the manual gearbox and CC, really. The funky Euro bundts were a bonus. Have the headlights from it in a box; the reflector vessels are corroded. Anybody figured out where to get them resilvered? I want to put 'em on the '79.

Jay

Thumbs up Gassers Count Too !

Of course they do ! .

Back in the early 1970's I used to import lots of Domestic VW's from England , Europe (South France ! RUST FREE !) and Japan .

I've had very good luck with having reflectors chromed ~ they're very bright and last forever...

Good quality chrome , not those jerkoff ' bumper boyze ' thieves et al .

Got mine 2 weeks ago....1980 , 300TD

Found a dozen Belgium and French coins when I took the seats off....

It is supposed to have come from Belgium in 87.

This is a "work in progress"..... I'll take my time but I'll get it done, thanks to this forum.

Hey JimmyL,

Thanks.

It has been an interesting 2weeks (lots of cleaning). No major surprises so far.
Still a lot of work, window seals, door seals, master cylinder and probably brake booster, por15 in some areas etc... etc... etc...

Planing a new paint (white) by the summer if I can get all the rest done in time, that is....

This is becoming a hobby....I am having fun.

i'll join the club :-) i have a euro wagon, not a diesel though. it's an '88 230TE. looks pretty much like our '87TD from the outside but the interior is cloth, has wind up windows, manual seats, manual climate control, and an M102.985 gasoline engine.
