Ultra sonic cleaning, oil sensor
Hello folks,
My oil sensor has been playing up for a while and need of attention. On the look out for a second hand unit (new $100 +) managed to source one from low mileage OM606.962, the idea being to change oil and filter while popping this one back in. Looking at the image it appears to be sealed, cleaning wise maybe use the ultra sonic cleaner- any thoughts?

No, don't do it. Here is a thread where I dissected one of these:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/381178-oil-level-sender-dissected.html The sensor is actually magnetic. There's a float with an embedded magnet that rides up and down an aluminum tube. Inside the tube is a magnetic reed switch. An ultrasonic cleaner is more likely to shatter the glass tube of the switch than actually clean anything. You can maybe swish some solvent around inside, but even this is problematic as an aggressive solvent could dissolve the float. |

Thanks Frank, will try some diesel submersion instead.
Good post by jay bob on the other thread.
