350SDL expansion tank availability

I am looking for an expansion tank for my SDL, and Pelican does not have one available. Are these NLA? If so, is there a substitute?

No they are still available. They've been about $200 expensive the last 5 years.
Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI

The cheapest I found was Hamburg Tech at $100 but not sure of the quality. I just as well go with OE stuff.

Do you mean the pressurized reservoir in the engine bay or the overflow tank inside the fender?

That is odd, I searched for it in the SDL listing for '86-'91, and it showed nothing available. I typed expansion tank in the search, and only the plug kit came up. Yes I too later found them on ebay for around $200 OUCH!

Try to visually compare your tank to alternatives. When I needed to replace the overpriced tank in my 190D turbo, I found that there were other Mercedes cars with nearly identical tanks. I eventually discovered that the 500E tank, despite having a different part number, was identical in every respect except the corners were a little more rounded and the price was half. Mercedes seems to invent the same tank over and over again, so a little persistence will help.

There is not another one that will work as far as I know. The SDL has a unique shape to fit around the air cleaner.

According to the resource I found the PN of the tank is 1265001749. It fits the 300SDL, and 350SD/L. Cost is $160 at MB. I'd suck it up and buy the quality part.

Could be worse priced!

That lower rad hose I priced around $90 once.
