I too have used the gear wrench, and it also helps to remove the upper oil cooler line. The ends of some gear wrenches are too large on the outside diameter. I like Harbor Freight color coded tools because their gear wrenches have smaller end, and the colors make it easier for us old blind guys to know what size to look for in the tool box!.

I have gear wrenches, just couldn't get them on the bolt while the smaller non-geared box end wrench would fit.

It's Christmas, I'm being lazy. Went out to the shop and lit the heaters, will head out there when it warms up a bit.

Don't know why your gear wrench wouldn't fit. This is the one I used with 4 sizes, 13 being the biggest. I have also used a flex head 13 mm gear wrench which also fits but this one, being non flex was used to break loose the bolt with a pipe and mallet. The screwdriver was used as a wedge and kept the wrench from falling off. I can see taking an hour or more if you use a box end bent wrench.

wrench on the end bolt. Oil cooler line did have have to be removed.

Pipe resting on the wrench

It can be done with teh cooler still on, I've done it.

Buy a cheap wrench and bend it with a torch to suit.

Thank you folks for the great info. Especially Funola, for the FANTASTIC photos.

My gear wrench doesn't fit because it doesn't have the protruding lip that yours has, it's flat across it's entire surface and gets hung up on the rear IP cover. The smaller box-end wrenches fit better.

Got the IP in and most of the fuel system hooked up for timing yesterday. Not much progress today, various after Christmas stuff and running around. Breakfast out and shopping with girlfriend, etc. When it's warmer out she's content to come out to the shop with me but when it's cold she's not too keen on that idea.

I have two of the brackets, I think I'm going to experiment with one and try notching it out so that bolt can just be loosened instead of completely removed.
