84 300SD

Hello
My first post. I was just gifted an 84 300SD in great condition. There are minor things but otherwise in great shape.

One thing is when I open the driver or passenger door, there is a clicking under the glove box. It stops on its own after a few minutes. i just don't ever remember hearing it when I first got the car or others Ive been in.

Thanks

Does it seem to be coming from the kick (footrest) area below the dash on the passenger side?

Not sure about the first gen 126, but my '86 (gen II) has an integrated alarm that "sort of" functions. When I was having central locking problems, opening the doors, hood, trunk, or starting the car, it would "go off" and you'd hear a sort of rhythmical relay clicking coming from that area. I assume the relay was supposed to set off the horn or something, thankfully it didn't.

I've since fixed the central locking and unplugged the main plug from the alarm module and haven't had problems since. Do a search on the forum to see if your vehicle has the alarm module. If so, unplugging the plugs feeding into the module will disable it, see if the clicking stops.

It's coming from the kick rest area. Almost sounds like a relay. I don't think it has an alarm, anyway I can check?

It looks like you probably do have a factory alarm (seems to be a W126 "feature").

The forum has a DIY sticky with more info than I could type out here:

I agree with the alarm. I removed the whole alarm control unit.
