ABS Light On - '95 E300D

Light is now on steady any time the engine is running. The following is a direct quote from the Owner's Manual pg 73: "If the charging voltage falls below 10 volts, the warning lamp comes on and the ABS is switched off." It then goes on to say "If the ABS warning lamp does not go out or comes on while driving, it indicates that the ABS has detected a malfunction and has switched off." The 2nd part makes sense. I am confused about the charging voltage statement. Vehicle has 330K miles.

If your bus voltage drops below 10 V then most likely the ABS pump cannot function. The light coming on gives you a warning that the ABS is not operational in this case.

Note that the ABS controller does have blink diagnostics so if you lose a wheel sensor or solenoid valve it will set a blink code so you know what's wrong if your bus voltage is OK and the light is on.

Check brake switch for operation, agree with Jay on speed sensor although BAS light should also appear at some point.

Mine flickers, traced back to.....

On my 1991 300d, my ABS light comes on intermittently. We think we've tracked it down to the cracked electrical wires that lead to the brake assembly. While driving they move a bit and short out, causing the light to come on. Next time I have my brakes done I want them to fix that.

Not sure if the OVP relay continued to '95, but a bad OVP will cause the ABS to malfunction.

it did, just replaced mine and fixed the tach issue and probably others I don't even realize yet because its only 20F out and I haven't driven it yet.

Thanks for the help. After posting my problem the car sat in the garage for a week. Drove it yesterday and no ABS light. If I recall correctly the light came on when we had a 2 day cold snap here in Florida. Maybe that had something to do with it.
