Differential Mount Bolt
Hello all,
Replacing a broken sway bar link, at the same time replacing the differential mount. Of the four bolts that hold the mount to the floor board 3 came out, they had blue thread locker on them. The fourth one broke the captive nut loose inside the floor and will not loosen. It just spins. I've decided, after a few hours of messing with it, that i will cut the bolt head off. Has anyone had this issue before? I tried to search for it but came up empty handed. 1979 300D

I had a similar issue with the rear transmission suipport when I removed it. 2 of the Bolt were rusted to the captive nuts which like wise rotated.
I cut the bolts off and ground off as much as I could. I this case there was solts which I enlarged to get the nuts out and replace them. I don't remember any way to get at the spinning nut you are speaking of. You are likely going to have to leave it the way it is or cut it open from the topside or side of the cross member (I can't remember the relationship of the parts up there).

I had the same issue when I had the subframe out on my 240D. I ended up cutting the head off the bolt and getting a new captive nut from the dealer. It was only a few dollars. One side has the threads for both bolts so you only need two of the captive nuts to replace everything. There is a small access slot on one side of the body right in the same plane as the bolt holes. I think its accessed from the front side and you may have some difficulty since the differential might be in the way. Mine was out so I didn't have any issues getting the new captive nuts installed.
