w123 Tail light Purpose of Additional Wiring plug
Gents, I'm wondering what the purpose of this intermediary plug is:
As you can see the 8-wire plug plugs into an intermediary plug from which three wires emanate. I just removed this off a w123 tail light electrical panel I had in storage. My guess is that the intermediary plug is for models with reverse lights built into the rear bumper. But I didn't know that was an option for sedans, and would have assumed such a plug was only placed on wagons. Is that what the plug is for? I'm hoping it is, because I have a wagon bumper on my sedan, and this could help me wire the reverse lights without soldering the wires directly onto the 'pins' of the existing plug.

My guess is for the red back fog light on some models outside of the US

That would have been my guess but it appears that if you disconnect that plug power would cease to flow to whatever is downstream - series instead of parallel.
